I am an Italian film programmer and industry expert based in Germany. I have selected and curated programs and screenings for several international events, including the Venice, Locarno and Berlin film festivals.

After graduating in Film Studies and working at the Cineteca di Bologna, I curated programs for Il Cinema Ritrovato, the Pesaro and the Rome festivals. I selected short films for the Venice International Film Festival and was part of the selection committees of the Locarno Film Festival and the Berlinale. For 14 years I was Head of Program at the Trento Film Festival. I currently program the ARCA Festival in Punta del Este, Uruguay, I am Co-Director of Archivio Aperto in Bologna, Italy, and a member of the Selection Committee at the BFI London Film Festival and the Visions du Réel festival in Nyon, Switzerland. I founded CineAgenzia, a platform for film programming and distribution. I have participated in several international festival juries, funding committees, training and mentoring initiatives.

Visions du Réel

PROGRAMMER
2024 – Present

Since 1969, over ten days, the Visions du Réel turns Nyon into a focal point at which several generations of filmmakers and artists from all over the world find a loyal audience. Recognised globally as one of the major festivals dedicated to non-fiction filmmaking, it presents a majority of films as world or international premieres, and constitutes an essential platform for creation for thousands of film professionals. I joined the selection committee under festival director Emilie Bujes in October 2024.

Archivio Aperto, organized by Home Movies - Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia, is the festival dedicated to the rediscovery of the small-format film heritage - private, amateur, experimental, artists' cinema, and more in general to found-footage and archival-based filmmaking practices. Founded in Bologna in 2008, since 2022 the festival has had a competitive section dedicated to documentary and experimental works that focus on the re-use of archives and family memories, which I curate, sharing the festival direction with Giulia Simi.

ARCA is an international event dedicated to exploring and promoting the connections between cinema and the visual arts, held at the Pablo Atchugarry Foundation and the MACA Museum in Manantiales, Uruguay. Each year, the festival's selections reflect the quality and diversity of filmmaking about art and artists. I'm responsible for scouting, previewing, and negotiating suitable films worldwide, selecting and finalizing the line-up, introducing screenings, and moderating talks and Q&As.

Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival

PROGRAMMER
2019 – 2024

The Berlinale is a unique place of artistic exploration and entertainment. It is one of the largest public film festivals in the world, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the globe each year. At the Berlinale, I'm part of the selection committee for the "Official Selection", i.e. the Competition and the Encounters and Special Sections, for which I also moderate press conferences and Q&As. In particular, I'm responsible for films and submissions from Scandinavia, Switzerland, and most of Central and Eastern Europe.

Trento Film Festival

HEAD OF PROGRAM
2010 - 2023

Founded in 1952, the Trento Festival is the longest-running event in the world dedicated to films of all styles and genres that focus on mountains, the outdoors and adventure. I started as a consultant, then in 2010 I became the Head of Program and began to show a wider range of creative works that sought new ways to represent the people and stories of mountains and remote areas. Under my tenure, the festival's audience has doubled and several projects have been launched, including the successful “Destination” sidebar and the festival's own SVOD channel.

Thanks to its summer program, aimed at the general public and cinephiles alike, and to settings such as the democratic space of Piazza Grande, the Locarno Film Festival offers a unique location to discover the best of national and international filmmaking. For 6 editions, I have been a member of the selection committee under the direction of Carlo Chatrian, responsible in particular for films from Germany, Scandinavia, most of Central and Eastern Europe, India and Brazil. During the festival, my main tasks were moderating Q&As, press conferences, and panels.

Venice International Film Festival

PROGRAMMER
2010 - 2011

The Venice festival is organised by La Biennale di Venezia, the two editions I've worked on were directed by Marco Müller. As part of a reorganization of the Orizzonti section, my task as programmer of shorts and medium-length works was to renew the curatorial approach to the selection, dealing not only with the previewing of the films submitted, but also with the scouting of experimental works and artists' films, which were presented in the program to accompany the feature films.

My path in programming began from the margins: from silent and classic films, thanks to my training in a cinematheque, and from experimental and artists' cinema, the first area in which I had the opportunity to seriously try my hand as a curator.
Later, I refined my practices and knowledge by working with short films and especially documentaries, often in thematic programs and festivals, such as on current affairs and human rights, art and literature, nature and the environment.
All the way to the opportunity to work on the scouting, selection and programming of feature films and increasingly prominent productions in the context of high-profile festivals, with premieres and competitive sections, and the resulting corollary of guests, professionals and press.
This experience also allowed me to mature as a script, editing and festival strategy consultant, both in the context of dedicated events and personally on specific films and projects, and as a moderator for panels, talks and Q&As.
Parallel to my involvement in festivals and as an industry expert, my commitment to unorthodox film distribution and my interest in the dissemination of cinema through new media have grown.
The dialogue between genres and styles, across periods, formats and channels, to bring the most diverse cinema to audiences, remains my passion and goal.
